Our trip to Happy Sumo last night was much more eventful that we'd planned! We were on our way to Riverwoods (and some really great sushi), waiting at a red light to turn left from University Ave to Orem Center St, when the car in front of me started rolling backward. I tapped by horn, but the car kept coming. I laid on the horn, for a good 10 seconds, and the car kept coming. Even after it hit mine (barely a tap, but enough to notice for sure!), it kept coming. Syd was afraid the driver had passed out or had a heart attack (seriously! who doesn't respond to a horn honking for that long?!) so she ran out (in traffic, crazy girl) to make sure the driver was ok. A young woman got out, looked at her car only, got back in her car and drove away. I called the police because the girl was not responding normally at all and we thought she might be under the influence...
Anyway, she pulled her car over about a block later and Syd went out to talk to her while I was still on the phone with the police. The girl panicked when she heard the word "police" and called a man (boyfriend, husband?) to help her. He at least spoke English. We told him that there was no damage and we didn't want to file a report, but we were concerned about her driving because she honestly did not know she'd been going backward. He said that he would make sure she didn't drive that car again, and we told the police there was no need for an officer to come on the scene (which would've taken an additional 30 minutes, and we were starving). The police do have both license plate numbers and a record of it, but no charges filed.
Because, as Kelsie said, I'm too hungry to deal with stupid people right now!
